Mulling it Over vol. 18
A weekly recap featuring a few books, a pizza rat, and female-centric rock playlist.
Happy Friday! It’s finally raining in Connecticut (we’ve been in a drought!) and I’m leaning into the cozy vibes. It’s been an emotional roller coaster of a week, but things are turning a corner. Next week is somehow Thanksgiving, and I’m looking forward to a few restful days enjoying good food with our chosen family. This weekend I’m going to see A Christmas Carol with some friends and we also have some birthday parties to attend. Let’s jump in, shall we?
Last weekend we celebrated our local indie bookstore’s birthday. It was such a fun event and what’s better than sipping on bubbly while browsing a bookstore? I snagged a copy of Lyndsay Rush’s (aka
)new poetry book A Bit Much. It’s a hilarious and insightful collection. I love buying poetry because you can return to them again and again.Reading
I’m currently in the middle of Funny Girl by Nick Hornby. I’m really loving it. It’s funny and fast-paced, and definitely has to have been an inspiration for the show Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
I finished reading the memoir Sociopath by Patric Gagne. I gave it a 2.75 stars because although I was initial drawn by the story, I started questioning some of the content and went on a Reddit deep dive. Turns out many people are questioning the validity of the book, a la A Million Little Pieces of the early 2000s.
Watching
We’re all caught up on GBBO. I still love this show, but I find myself not connected to any of this year’s contestants! I’m not rooting for anyone in particular and I wish Sumayah got to stay on longer. Anyway, we’ll see it through the next two episodes!
Listening
I made a new playlist of femme rock songs to blast while on the treadmill this week. Feel free to save for yourself, if you fancy an upbeat, feminine playlist that will help you process the rage so many of us are feeling lately.
et cetera
I thrifted this like-new Tuckernuck blouse at Savers for $5. I’m still in awe. It’s great quality!
I also was surprised to find this amazing Pizza Rat claw clip from The Peach Fuzz Co in my mailbox. (They have so many fantastic products, so maybe check them out during the holiday shopping season.) My dear friend Francesca sent it to me after a hilarious conversation about New York City rodents. It feels good to be seen.
That’s all for now!
Until next time,
Cassie
